Joaquin Miller Park
Situated in the hills above Oakland, Joaquin Miller Park is a tranquil escape from the bustle of the city below. Hikers, equestrians, bicyclists, runners and picnickers from all over the Bay Area regularly frequent this 500-acre park. The park is named after Cincinnatus Heine Miller, better known by his pen name Joaquin Miller. Miller was a colorful American poet and frontiersman, who was nicknamed the "Poet of the Sierras" after the Sierra Nevada, about which he wrote in his Songs of the Sierras in 1871.
Joaquin Miller Park boasts about a dozen miles of beautiful shaded trails through redwood forest. Most of the trails are singletrack, with about 1000 feet of elevation gain between the bottom and top of the park. For longer runs or hikes, Joaquin Miller Park connectsto the West Ridge Trail in Redwood Regional Park, just on the other side of Skyline Blvd.
After you finish your epic hike or run, why not explore the Arts and Sciences as well? Joaquin Miller Park is home to the the 2,000-seat Woodminster Amphitheater, an outdoor amphitheater regularly used to stage both amateur and professional musicals and plays. The park is also home to the Chabot Space & Science Center, located just off of Skyline Blvd. The center offers educational exhibits for the whole family and the chance to gaze through the giant telescopes.

- Dogs on-leash are allowed on all trails. There is also a fenced off-leash area near the Ranger Station
